Tropical Trail Rides in Carolina offers a wonderful ATV tour on a 2200 acre and is located about 30 minutes from Villa Sevilla.  You will explore beautiful countryside, one of the largest mangrove forest reserves, amazing vistas and a visit to a small cave with authentic Taino Indian carvings.  The ATV's are brand new and very high quality providing for a wonderful ride and great adventure.  Tours are two hrs long and cost is $70 for a single rider and $40 for the second person on the same ATV.  Reservations are required.  Drivers must be 16 yrs or older and show proof of valid driver's license.  There are 10 ATV's available so the max group size can only be 20 persons. To read about our friend's experience with this company along with much more information please read their Blog. Tropical trail rides also offers horseback riding on their ranch.

Horseback Riding
The Paso Fino is the national horse of Puerto Rico. The Paso Finos are known for their gentle disposition, and most notably for their incredibly smooth and even gait. This gait is not a learned gait, but rather it's natural to this breed from birth. Puerto Ricans have always had a grand love for horses, and especially on weekends you will see groups of caballeros riding throughout the countryside on these magnificent horses. When you see these horses in action, it is truly a breath taking experience.

rancho2.JPG Rancho Buena Vista is another great option for horseback riding on the east side of the island.  The Equestrian Center is located within the Palmas Del Mar community in Humacao.  They offer several options; pony rides ($15) or trail rides for the kids ($25), beginner trail rides lasting approximately one hour ($45)and expert trail rides for experienced riders lasting approximately 2 hours ($75).  All of the rides include beach trails (beach trails may be closed due to turtle nesting at different times.  Check with the ranch when making reservations) and resort trails offering incredible scenery and views.  To make reservations, contact Rancho Bueno Vista Directly at 787-479-7479. Let them know we sent you!

Hacienda Carabali is located just south of Luquillo and offers trail rides on Paso Fino horses. Reservations are required and cost for a 1 hour ride is $30 adults and $25 children (ages 3-12) and a two hour ride is $60/$40 and takes you through the ranch and up to the edge of the rainforest. 787-889-5820

Special Notes:

  • Even though Hacienda Carabali is closer to Villa Sevilla, our top choice for a ride is Rancho Buena Vista.  Rancho Buena Vista is located within the Palmas Del Mar resort in Humacao, so it is farther to drive, but the drive is scenic once you pass Fajardo and it will also give you an opportunity to see the SE side of the island.  Our personal opinion is that the horses are much better taken care of and both the staff and stables are very clean and professional.

Tropical Trail Rides in Carolina -NEW-Offers wonderful horseback tours at Hacienda Campo Rico in Carolina.  The property encompasses a 2200 acre ranch in Carolina just minutes from San Juan and about 30 minutes or less from Villa Sevilla.  Enjoy the beautiful countryside of Puerto Rico on our healthy Paso Fino horses.  Mount up for a smooth ride beside lush mangrove waterways, tropical lakeside trails, forests, caves, and much more. Riders may also have the opportunity to dismount for a short boat ride to break at a white sandy beach.

Fishing
In Puerto Rico you can fish in over 1000 foot deep water less then two miles off the coast. Summer months are especially good for Blue Marlin and the record for marlin (604 lbs) i s held here in PR. The rest of the year, catches include Dorado, mahi-mahi, Wahoo, and yellow fin tuna. Charters are available for half and full day trips and include bait, equipment along with snacks and beverages. Boats can range from 24' to 50'.  Charters in Puerto Rico can also be pricey compared to areas in the US and Mexico. 6 Passenger charters can start from $400 and up for half day trips. Regardless of this, it is a good idea to reserve this excursion well in advance as most boats only accommodate six passengers and fill up quickly especially in the winter months. Click on this link for information on fishing in Puerto Rico. Deep Sea Fishing

Another wonderful option to deep sea fishing is Light Tackle Paradise with Captain Marcos.  He uses light tackle to fish in the Fajardo bay and surrounding small island cays of the east side.  This is a much better alternative especially if you want to actually catch some fish to eat at your accommodation.  Captain Marcos Hanke's formal education in Marine Biology will show you another dimension of fishing techniques and strategies to catch game fish such as Tarpon, Snook, Bonefish, Permit, False Albacore, Kingfish, Jacks and other exciting caribbean game fish. Both boats are fully equipped with conventional, spinning and fly fishing tackle to cover the many fishing opportunities available off Puerto Rico's pristine northeast coast.  Captain Marcos will also clean all your fish at the end of the day.  Prices start at $350/ 4 hrs on his 22 ft catamaran and $450/4 hrs for the 26ft catamaran. Half Day and Full Day charters available.  Also available are: Light Tackle, Fly Fishing, Deep Sea Fishing, Bottom Fishing, Night Fishing, Sightseeing Trips, and Bird Watching Trips.  Read about our day out with Capt Marcos on our Blog
